Chino Hills State Park is a unique space that provides refuge for biodiversity and beautiful sceneries to visitors that enjoy outdoor experiences. This park is just a 20-minute drive from Anaheim and offers scenic vistas, recreational areas, and over 90 miles of trailers for hiking, biking, and equestrian riding. Chino Hills State Park is 14,102 acres big and has been managed as an open space habitat where all animal and plant life are protected. RV camping and overnight tent are allowed at the park.
Park visitors can walk, mountain bike, or horseback ride on trails through the valleys and woodlands, grasslands, and sage scrub. The park’s trails and fire roads offer opportunities for discovering native plants and viewing wildlife. Chino Hill’s facilities include camping sites, an equestrian staging area and corrals, water fountains, restrooms, a picnic area, and a historic barn. Most of the park’s trails are in multiple mode use, and few are designed exclusively for hiking for safety and habitat protection.
Visitors have used the Chino Hills open spaces, plentiful water, and plant and animal resources for over 100 years. When Chino Hills is open, most of its trails are available, except for the Hills for Everyone Trail, which due to severe erosion and fallen trees, is closed as well as a portion of North Ridge Trail that has been affected by severe erosion. And Gilman Peak is only accessible using the Sycamore Trail and the McDermont Trail from Telegraph Canyon Trail.
To protect the park’s natural resources and keep visitors from harm, trails can be closed temporarily when natural adverse conditions occur; when this happens, signs are posted at the legal entrances of Chino Hills. This park has acres of grassy, rolling hills and valleys dotted with oak and sycamore stands, over 200 species of birds and mammals, numerous amphibians and reptiles, and thousands of insects and invertebrates living in its land, such as the California gnatcatcher, Bell’s vireo, and the coastal cactus wren which are endangered. The native plant diversity found in Chino Hills State Park is among the highest in North America.
