Jaguar, the "Streaking Big Cat of Roller Coasters," debuted on this day in 1995. The three-minute ride stretched out to 2,700 feet to cover the landscape between Montezooma's Revenge and the Timber Mountian Log Ride. Replacing the 80's teen dance club Studio K, Fiesta Village discovered an ancient pre-Columbian and Mayan temple with a mysterious queue. Guests entered the Temple of the Jaguar to see idols and murals inspired by the ancient Mayan murals of Bonampak in the Yucatan region of Mexico as well as multiple tombs of the dead. The Great Hall of Egress featured Toltec columns like those found at Tula in Hidalgo, Mexico. All of it was designed by Knott's VP of design and architecture, Robin Hall, with the manager of design, Tracy Caviola. Hall said he "designed the ride with families in mind," but the ride ended up with more thrills than he anticipated. "It's faster than I thought it was going to be." The steel coaster was built by the German Zierer company with fire and mist effects added by Knott's designers.
