Mummies of the World at the Bower Museum

It’s the last month to see the Mummies of the World exhibit at Bowers Museum where you can get nose to nose with preserved remains from Ancient Egypt, Europe and South America. Some of the displays are 4,500+ years old, and the exhibit closes September 5. Bowers Museum is in nearby Santa Ana with hours from 10am-4pm. Museum admission includes the Mummies exhibit, but planning to spend an entire day at the museum is a smart move—there’s so much to see!

NBC has called the exhibit fascinating, intriguing and inspiring, while NPR dubbed it a must-see. It’s the perfect outing for families, or for anyone who wants a closer glimpse at some of the best preserved mummies in the world. You can buy tickets online here or schedule a special group outing with your very own docent.

Oh, Mummy!

Mummification is the blocking of decay and a relatively common practice (especially for royalty) thousands of years ago in many cultures and regions. However, sometimes mummification was accidental, resulting in a diverse collection only available at Bowers Museum. Some cultures, like the Egyptians, had an expert artificial mummification strategy that included organ removal for preservation.

Mummies can teach us a lot about our past, our history, and where we came from. Buy your tickets now, and make this an event you don’t miss!
